This document describes how to find MAC addresses on various operating systems and devices.

Windows XP/2000

  1. Find the Command Prompt Window under "Start" and then "Programs" and finally "Accessories".
  2. Type in ipconfig/all in the Command Prompt Windows, and press Enter.
    The 12-digit Physical Address is the same as MAC address.

  3. Highlight the Physical Address copy the text into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu. Note: Include all Physical Addresses if you are unsure which to send.

Windows Vista / Win 7

  1. Type Command into the main search bar, and press Enter.
  2. Type in ipconfig/all in the Command Prompt Window, and press Enter.
    The 12-digit Physical Address is the same as MAC address

  3. Highlight the Physical Address copy the text into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu. Note: Include all Physical Addresses if you are unsure which to send.

Mac OSX

  1. Click on the Apple.
  2. Click on About this Mac.

  3. Click More Info.

  4. Click Network.
  5. In the top panel choose the appropriate device (AirPort if a wireless problem or Ethernet for a wired problem).
  6. In the bottom panel, scroll down to MAC Address.
  7. Copy the MAC address and paste the text into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu.

Windows Mobile

  1. From Home screen, go to Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wireless Lan -> Advanced

    Note WiFi must be ON in order for the MAC address to show up.

  2. Copy the MAC address and paste the text into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu.

 

iPhone or iPod Touch

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select About.
  4. Copy the MAC address from Wi-Fi Address into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu.

 

Apple TV

  1. From the home screen, go to Settings.
  2. Select General.
  3. Select About.
  4. Copy the MAC address from Ethernet Address into a reply to your ticket. If you do not already have a ticket open, please e-mail the copied text to the helpdesk@rice.edu.
