Lab 1 - Importing and Cleaning GIS Data
Importing CAD (.dxf or .dwg) data into a file geodatabase
- If the Geoprocessing pane is not already open, click the Analysis tab on the ribbon. In the Geoprocessing group, click the Tools button.
- In the Geoprocessing pane, search "cad" and click the CAD to Geodatabase tool.
- For 'Input CAD Datasets', click the Browse... button and navigate to and select the .dxf file.
- For 'Output Geodatabase', leave the default project geodatabase with your site name.
- For 'Dataset', leave the default name, which should be a combination of the original CAD file name and the name of the tool "CADToGeodatabase".
- For Spatial Reference, click the Select coordinate system button and navigate to the coordinate system indicated on your site instructions handout.
- Click Run.
Splitting CAD layers
- In the Geoprocessing pane, search "split" and click the Split By Attributes tool.
- For 'Input Table', use the drop-down menu to select the converted CAD layer you wish to split.
- For 'Target Workspace', click the Browse... button and single click your project geodatabase with your site name and click OK.
- For 'Split Fields', select the Layer field.
- Click Run.
Assigning lot IDs to lot polygons
- In the Geoprocessing pane, search "join" and click the Spatial Join tool.
- For 'Target Features', use the drop-down menu to select your lots polygon layer.
- For 'Join Features', use the drop-down menu to select your lot IDs point layer.
- For 'Output Feature Class', rename the feature class something like "LotsWithIDs".
- Leave the rest of the defaults and click Run.
