h3. Subversion Global Groups

Previously, users were only able to define and use local groups in their access_files to define who had access to various parts of their repository.

We've added the ability for users to now include any of the many groups defined in our LDAP server.

These groups are all managed through [Grouper|http://grouper.rice.edu], a group management program.  The groups defined in [Grouper|http://grouper.rice.edu] are then fed into our LDAP server where they are available for other programs to use.

Since Subversion can not use LDAP groups directly, another process will periodically translate these LDAP groups into a format that Subversion can use.

Because of this multi-hop process, it could take 6 hours or so for group changes made in Grouper to be available in Subversion. Please be patient and plan accordingly.

Because the list of groups is so large, it has been split onto separate pages.
