OIT Networking has completed maintenance on the network switches in ACC-130, Hanszen Magister House, and Housing & Dining.  Please report any issues to the Help Desk (x4357).

There was a brief Email service interruption at 8:30am caused by a hardware issue. It was quickly resolved. Please report any problems to the Helpdesk. (x4357).

The Rice Telecommunications Department has completed migration of the campus telephone system Telco circuits from digital to IP.

All testing has been completed and there should have been no disruption to users during this event.

If any users experience any issues, please contact the Help Desk at x4357.

Starting at 7pm, the Rice Telecommunications Department will be working with our Telco service providers to migrate the campus telephone system circuits from digital to IP.  The process should take 3 hours to complete and be transparent to users.

An automated email from Adobe entitled: “Urgent: Your Adobe serial(s) will expire Nov 30 2017 – Please contact us ASAP” was sent to some of campus members this morning.  We migrated all of the previous Adobe licenses to our the new Adobe Portal earlier this fall. 

If you have any concerns about your Adobe licensing, contact the Help Desk at 713-348-4357 to verify your license status

Mathmatica License Update

It was recently discovered that the Mathmatica license is set to expire on September 13th.  A new License Key has been generated and will be uploaded to the License Server at 5pm this evening.

Today's maintenance on Storage, Crate and RNAS is complete.

 

Please contact the Help Desk (x4357) if any issues need to be addressed.

 

 

 

Maintenance on the following storage solutions will begin at 8:00am.

  •  Storage.rice.edu (individual storage and department shared storage)
  • Crate (file storage space for researchers)
  •  RNAS (storage solution purchased by departments for archival storage, not research related

OIT will perform rolling reboots.  These services will remain online for most of the maintenance period, with only intermittent connection interruptions.

 

Will be performing needed windows system updates to the central print systems. These updates will require restarting the print systems which will prevent access to print services for a brief period of time (for about 15 minutes).  Any incoming print jobs will be queued up and delivered once the print servers come back online.

Monitoring: SSH Login to CLEAR

The secure shell (SSH) login service for CLEAR has been restored.  The engineers working on it will continue to monitor the issue over the weekend to ensure that it does not fail again.

Subject: Rice Alert

Do not respond or take action on this phishing message other than deleting the message.  Phishing is an attempt to criminally and fraudulently acquire private information, such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details by masquerading as trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Rice OIT will never ask for your User ID or password via email. 

If you suspect that you have received one of these messages and need assistance in disposing of the message or if you accidentally responded to the phishing message, change your password.  If you need additional assistance, contact the Help Desk: helpdesk@rice.edu or 713.348.4357.
