Change an "unlinked account" password (ORGANIZATION or DEPARTMENT account)

For old organization or departmental For Organization or Departmental accounts, which may are not be linked to an individual NetID.  The , the owner of that account can change the account password in apply.rice.edu at MyNetID (Online Account Management System) at any time.

1. Go to URL: Apply Accounts Management

  1. Go to MyNetID (Online Account Management System)
  1. From the Left-Hand Menu, select "Login" and enter YOUR NetID (account name) and password (usually your e-mail password). You will be taken back to the main page.

  1. Select "Change your account password" from the "Account Maintenance"

4. Now, select "Change/Sync Password":

Under the Section "Individual Accounts":

You will find special COURSE or ORGANIZATION or DEPARTMENTAL type of
accounts that have their own UNIQUE password; that are owned by you.

Selecting an account's button and then selecting
"Change single account password"
will ONLY change the unique password for the account you selected.

Under the Section "NetID Account":
====================================

You will find all the different types of user accounts named with
your Account Name (NetID). These accounts all SHARE your NetID password-
that is; they are all linked to use your NetID password.

You may select EITHER:
"Change NetID password" to change your current
NetID password, which will also cause that password to be synchronized
to all your NetID accounts.
– OR --:
You may also just select "Resynchronize NetID Password" if you want to
keep your current NetID password, but force it to be synchronized to
all your NetID accounts now.

Password changes will take effect within 5 minutes.

If you need to CHANGE ACCOUNT ownership

  1. To change the password for an Individual Account, select it from the list by clicking the button or circle that begins that row, then type your new password into the appropriate spaces to change the password for this INDIVIDUAL account.

    • If you leave your department or change roles within Rice, remember to shift the ownership of your previous course/org/dept accounts to the new account owner. This can be done by contacting the Help Desk.
    • If you find yourself in the position of having to take over ownership of a course/org/dept account that has not been managed recently, you will have to request ownership of the account(s).
      1. Send a request to the Help Desk (helpdesk@rice.edu) and ask that the account ownership be changed.
      2. CC the current or previous owner of the account, if known to verify transfer of ownership.
      3. If the current or previous owner of the account is not known, CC the department administrator to verify transfer of ownership.

 If the client is not the current owner of an ORGANIZATION or DEPARTMENTAL account, but
should be, submit an RT ticket requesting that ownership be changed, and CC the current
owner of the account, if known, for verification and approval to transfer ownership.
