You can scan book chapters, magazine pages, documents, and brochures into PDF files with Epson Scan 2 using the flatbed scanners located at stations 10, 11, 12, 13, and 4.

Scanning a book/magazine/brochure/document into a PDF file with Epson Scan 2

  1. Turn on the scanner. Lay the page face down on the flatbed of the scanner. Align it to the upper right corner or upper left corner following the arrow sign on the different model of scanners.
  2. Open Epson Scan 2
  3. Select the right scan settings based on the document type
    1. for a book or document that is just text, doesn't have any colors and images/figures, choose document

    2. a book or document that has black and white images/figures, select "Document", Grayscale, 300pdi. The scan settings will become "Not Selected". 


    3. for a book or document with color images/figures, choose Photograph
  4. Check the box of "Add or edit pages after scanning".
  5. Hit "Preview" to see your document before scanning. If you wish to scan only part of the document, drag your cursor on the preview window to create a selection box around that area. When you are ready, hit "Scan".
  6. After the scan is complete, a pop-up window will appear. 
  7. Put the second sheet of your document (the next page) on the bed of the scanner.  Click "Add" to scan additional pages, continuing through the subsequent sheets of your book/magazine/brochure.

  8. After you scan your last page, select "Save" to save your scanned pages.
  9. Locate your saved pdf file in the saved folder. 
  10. Make the PDF searchable (Note that this scanned document is an image pdf file, not searchable yet.)
    1.  In order to make it searchable, open the file with Adobe Acrobat
    2. Scan & OCR
    3. Recognize Text in this file
    4. Language - English
    5. Recognize Text

You can scan book chapters, magazine pages and brochures into .pdf files with Adobe Acrobat using the flatbed scanners located at stations 10, 11, 12, 13, and 4.

Scanning a book/magazine/brochure into a PDF file with Acrobat

  1. Turn on the scanner. Lay the page face down on the flatbed of the scanner. 
  2. Open Adobe Acrobat X Professional.
  3. In the upper-left hand corner of the window, click on the button "Create" and make sure these settings are selected:

    • From the drop-down menu choose "PDF from Scanner".
    • Choose EPSON Perfection V600/V700 or Epson GT-15000/GT-20000, depending on which station you are at.
    • Under Text Recognition and Metadata, make sure the box marked "Recognize Text (Run OCR)" is checked.
       

  4. Click the Scan button. The Epson scan window will now open up. Enter the appropriate settings for your document:

    • From the Mode drop-down menu, choose "Document".
    • From the Image Type drop-down menu, Choose - 
      • Black & White if your original document is just text. 
      • Grayscale if your original document has black & white images
      • Color if your original document has color pictures.
    • Set the Resolution to 300dpi

  5. Hit "Preview" to see your document before scanning. If you wish to scan only part of the document, drag your cursor on the preview window to create a selection box around that area. When you are ready, hit "Scan".
  6. After the scan is complete, a pop-up window will appear. Select "Scan more pages (sheet 2)", and then click "OK".
  7. Put the second sheet of your document (the next page) on the bed of the scanner and repeat step ?, continuing through the subsequent sheets of your book/magazine/brochure.
  8. After you scan your last page, select "Scan Is Complete" in the pop-up box.
  9. Go to File ->Save on the top menu to save your PDF to SaveWorkHere folder.
