Position Summary
The Cataloging and Metadata Services department is seeking a Metadata Coordinator and Copy Cataloging Supervisor. This position supervises the day-to-day operations of the copy cataloging unit in the Cataloging & Metadata Services Department. This position collaborates with leadership to set and evaluate priorities for all work performed in the unit; assists with department-wide projects and initiatives.
This position is expected to be full time, hybrid (80% on campus)
Essential Functions
- Supervises copy cataloging staff for administrative functions: timekeeping, performance feedback, workload distribution, and performance feedback as needed
- Collaborates with supervisor and other colleagues on priorities for the unit, generally focusing on operational needs such as ordering, cataloging, some record loads, and quality assurance
- Processes replacements, withdrawals, item changes, LSC coordination, etc.
- Creates and manages processes and procedures for consistent departmental operations
- Assists with ordering, complex member copy & some original cataloging as needed
- Provides training and technical advice to unit staff regarding resource description and metadata assignment
- Solves problems, such as bibliographic and procedural issues, and recommend solutions in areas (occasionally areas not under direct supervision)
Additional Functions
- Stays current on national metadata standards
- May initiate or manage special projects as assigned
- May serve on standing and ad hoc committees
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Coordinate bulk record loads and edits. Works technical services and other departments to plan catalog maintenance and clean-up projects. Coordinate LSC workflows pertaining to Technical Services/C&MS.
- Assists or manages special cataloging/metadata projects. Advising on campus metadata activities and initiatives, possibly leading project teams, participating in departmental and library-wide committees and work groups.
- Additional cataloging activities as needed. This might include leisure book cataloging
