For serials or sets that have multiple series, SIRSI places the |z after the “s” and before the “v.” or “no.” SIRSI does not supply |z before a date in a call number. This is a problem with serials or monographic sets that go to the LSC. If the |z is not in the record, or is done incorrectly, patrons can't access the volumes through the public recall process. These problems are usually found by Kerry Keck or by Reference staff when the problem is identified through a patron request An e-mail will be sent to DBM from Kerry or the Reference person requesting that they be fixed. Sometimes Mang can perform a global change, but often, if some have the |z in the correct place and others do not, they must be fixed one at a time.

This comes up with serials that have multiple series:

        Examples:

v.1-v.10                            will appear in call number record as      |zv.1-v.10

        s.1 v.1-s.1 v.10                                                                          s.1|zv.1-v.10

        s.2 v.1-s.2 v.10                                                                          s.2|zv.1-v.10

The |z must be moved for each volume with the “z” after the “s:”

       |zs.1 v.1

       |zs.1 v.2 etc.

       |zs.2 v.1

       |zs.2 v.2 etc.

Serials that have only years to denote volume numbering will need to have |z placed in front of each year.
