LINGUISTIC 1.  LINGUISTIC DATA CONSORTIUM

The Linguistic Data Consortium corpora consist of CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs, hard-drives and online titles.  The Linguistic Data Consortium (LDC) notifies Fondren (the AUL for Collections ) when new corpora are released, and she requests they be sent and when necessary signs the licenses .  Michael Barlow is our main consumer of these corporawhen necessary.

Cataloging receives the cd-roms discs from Acquisitions Receiving Coordinator along with accompanying invoices.  A corpus or transcript available by ftp online may be included on the invoice.

The corpora and transcripts are catalogued cataloged in OCLC and exported to our system.   There are constant data records “ldc” for the cd-roms and  “ldccf” for the files available remotely.

The cd-roms are cataloged as

Starting June 2016, LDC will not send Fondren any new materials unless requested.  If the materials arrive without requests, Cataloging can just trash them. If it is a requested material by patrons, Cataloging will process following the guidelines below.
