CREATING A PROVISIONAL RECORD
For items with no OCLC copy or class sep. dummy records, a provisional record should be created:
- Click on ‘Title Maintenance’ Wizard and then on ‘Add Title’ Wizard
- Set the appropriate properties for the record you are creating and click on Okay. Use MARC for monographs and monographic sets; use SERIAL for serials, analytics, and class sep. series; use MUSIC for scores and sound recordings, etc.
- An ‘Add Title: Modify new title’ screen will appear, edit all of the following that apply:
- Library well in the Call Number Info area
- Date 1 and Lang in the fixed field area
- 020, 022, 024, 028, 100, 245, 250, 260, 300, 4XX, 700
for videos, computer disks, microfilm, etc., add |h[GMD] immediately following |a portion of title in 245 (ex. 245 00 Notorious Welsh women |h[videorecording])
- Click on ‘Okay’
- Click on ‘Review’ to check for errors
If the item is in hand, print the record and note the date of last OCLC search. If the item is to be ordered, note control number (begins with a lower case ‘a’) on order slip.
