“Bound-Withs”

1.  GENERAL

“Bound withs” are defined as volumes in which several titles are bound together without a collective title page; each title has its own title page and pagination.  Each title in the volume will be cataloged as if it were bound independently, except that a “With” note listing the other titles in the work will be added to the record for each title.  All titles in the volume will be given the call number of the first title in the volume.  Only one barcode will be used for each volume; it will be attached to the first title in the volume (other titles in the volume will have Sirsi-assigned barcode numbers).  Rice will not use Sirsi’s parent-child procedures for bound withs, but will link bound withs only through call number and “With” notes.

2.  Multiple Copies of a Title Found in a Bound With

If an edition of a work (1) is bound both separately and in a bound with, or (2) is bound in two different bound withs, only one copy of the bibliographic record will be added to our catalog.  A “With” note or notes will give details as to other titles with which each copy is bound.  Item records with the appropriate call number will be created for each call number in which that work is found.
