The LSC staff will print out these lists. Single monographs and multi-volume sets will both be on the same list. While they are pulling them, they may find problems, such as call number does not match barcode. They will bring these items to DBM, where the person checking the lists must decide whether the book or the list is correct. If the book is correct, nothing needs to be done. Charge the book out to LSC-Inproc and change the Home Location to LSC. Put the appropriate flag in the book and put it on the LSC shelf for pickup. If the book is marked incorrectly, change the call number in the record and on the title page. Put the book on the Change truck to be re-marked. IMPORTANT- put a note in the Staff notes asking that the book be returned to DBM when re-marked. When it is returned to DBM, change Home location to LSC and charge out to LSC-Inproc.

For monographic sets, check to be sure that the correct volumes were pulled, and update the MARC Holdings section, if there are any changes. If all the parts of the subset are in LSC, chance the location to LSC. If some are still in Stacks, leave the 852 location as is and indicate which volumes are in LSC.

Example:  no. 6, 9, 13 (pt.1-pt.3 in Holdings note) are bound with other volumes, and all are in the LSC, change Stacks to LSC.

If the volumes containing no.6 and no.9 (pt.1-pt.2) are in LSC and no.13 is not, holdings location will be Stacks

                                       866 41 |80|apt.1-pt.2;|zIn LSC

                                       866 41 |80|apt.3

Note: the “;” indicates there is no gap in the volumes. A comma indicates there is:

                                    866 41 |80|apt.1-pt.2,|zIn LSC

                                    866 41 |80|apt.4  (i.e. we don’t have pt. 3 )

Volumes not found on shelf: the LSC staff member will note NOS on pull list, or on separate sheet of paper. If the book is charged out to a patron, place DBM hold: 21272000904045. Do not check Recall, mark the Date Due Never. IMPORTANT: put a note in the Staff Notes (in the Item Record) and in the Holds Note space (in the Place Hold section):

“Send to DBM for LSC when returned,” with your initials and date.

Some volumes had previously been withdrawn, but the Home Location was left as Stacks. You can tell this because Current location will be Withdrawn and there will be a withdrawn note in Staff notes section. Change Home location to Withdrawn. Do not count this in the monthly Withdrawn statistics.

If there is no apparent reason for the book not to be on the shelf, charge it to missinglsc. Be sure to use this form, it indicates the book has not been accessioned to the LSC. In the call number record, it will appear as LSC-Missing – this is correct. Do not change home location.

Most LSC books are pulled by LSC staff from pull lists generated by Kerry Keck. The DBM person prints out the Serials (“journals”) lists and pre-screens it for any problems, such as incorrect call number, title changes, etc. The LSC staff prints out the Monographs and Monographic Sets lists (combined in one list). Sometimes a collection of books are sent directly from Technical Services to LSC. They will be  cataloged with the location Stacks, and sent to Marking Table with an “LSC” flag, where they will be marked as if they are going to the Stacks. The Marking Table then sends the books to DBM. The location will be changed to LSC and they will be charged to LSC-INPROC.

New books going to LSC-SPECL or LSC-WRC will be cataloged to those locations, which will be included as part of the call number. The call number and barcode go on the acid-free flag. The call number will also be written on the verso of the title page. After marking, they will come to DBM, where they will be charged to LSC-INPROC. Occasionally, the Art Librarian will bring a book from the Fine Arts collection to be sent to LSC-SPECL These may already have call number labels and barcodes affixed to the book. Charge them to LSC-INPROC.

New books going to LSC, LSC-SPECL, or LSC-WRC that need to be repaired, boxed, or bound will be cataloged as stated above. The cataloger will place the item, with the appropriate flag, and, if necessary, a note explaining what should be done to the item, on the Repair shelf. When the book is repaired/bound, it will go to the Marking Table, then to DBM to be charged to LSC-INPROC.

LSC Flags (not the ones used by catalogers) are placed in each volume that goes on the DBM LSC shelf. This tells the LSC staff which location to put it in. There are five flags, located on DBM LSC shelf: LSC/FL is for regular books. Specl/UC is for LSC-SPECL books. LSC-WRC is for WRC books, and is rarely used. Most WRC books are charged out by the LSC staff in WRC. WEST is for WEST project fill-ins. Refiles are for books that are already in the LSC system. They may have been sent back to Fondren for repair or binding. You can usually identify these because the Home and Current locations are both LSC, and the original barcode is stuck on the title page. Those that have not been rebound will have the LSC barcode on the upper left on the front cover. These are NOT to be charged out, since they have already been accessioned by LSC.
