  1. These rare items get a 500 note that says, "Two titles are bound tête-bêche," which means tumble, probably describing the other part of the book- turned end over. Another example in call number PQ2664 .O846 S65 2012, reads, "Two separate works printed back-to-back and inverted (tête-bêche format)."

The term tête-bêche refers to a single volume in which two texts are bound together, with one text rotated 180 degree to the other, Books bound this way have no back cover, but instead have two front covers and a single spine with two titles. These volumes are also known as "upside-down books" or "reversible books".
