PROCESSING 1.  DIRECT ACCESS ELECTRONIC RESOURCES

Diskettes and CDCall numbers.  CD-ROMs and , DVD-ROMs and diskettes do not have their call number written on them. Instead, but they are accompanied by a white flag with:                       

  • location

  • call number

*Accompanying materials.  *The call number is penciled on any printed guide or accompanying material that fits inside the case and circulates with the diskette or CD-ROM or , DVD-ROM or diskette.

MARC Holdings records.  MARC holdings records are not made for multiple-diskette or -disc computer files in one container; piece count reflects total number of diskettes or CD-ROMS or , DVD-ROMs , or diskettes plus any printed guide in container.

Dot Labels.  Dot label on jewel case enumerates contents if case contains guide or multiple CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs (“+guide”, “2 discs”, etc) to alert Circulation staff.
Circular RU For CD-ROMs that are copied, a Rice University Library label is affixed to upper surface of the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.

Barcode CD-ROMs or DVD-ROMs on .  Place the barcode on the lower right front corner of jewel box or other container.
case containing the CD-ROM or DVD.

Jewel cases.  Optical discs (CD-ROMs and DVDs) Discs shelved in Reserve are placed in jewel cases.

When Installation software.  When the software includes an installation disc or diskette, the disc or diskette is copied in Technical Cataloging and Metadata Services and the original disc or diskette is stored in Technical Cataloging and Metadata Services, while the copy is sent with the other software to its designated location. 

For electronic serials and non-NetLibrary e-books, a printout of the bibliographical record on Sirsi will be made and given to the Sets Cataloger for periodic checking of the URL.  The Sets Cataloger checks the URL on Webcat, bookmarks the URL, and periodically runs the URL checker software against his/her bookmarks.
