PROCESSING VISUAL MATERIALS1.  CALL NUMBERS

Visual materials do not have call numbers penciled on but are accompanied by a white flag with:            location

  • Location

...

  • Call number

...

  • “Non-standard format” if a videocassette or DVD requires special viewing equipment

Videocassettes are shelved in plastic cases.  Extra cases are located in the Technical Services meeting room supply cabinet.  

2.  VIDEO CASES

Videocassettes and DVDs that come in sturdy plastic cases DVDs can remain in their original container if it is sturdy and protects the DVD.  Additional plastic cases are located .  If needed, plastic cases for DVDs are kept in the supply cabinets over the  above the sink in Technical Services, or in the Technical Services conference room supply cabinet..  Cassette cases are available from Preservation Services.

3.  BARCODES

The barcode is placed on the front of the videocassette or DVD case, centered center toward the bottom right.  If there is a clear protective cover over the video case, the barcode is placed between the case and the clear cover, for protection.  

4.  GUIDES

A printed guide that fits inside the case and can be circulated with the recording video has the call number and control number penciled on and is reflected in the piece count.   A  A guide that is separate from the videorecording video-recording or is for more than one videorecording video-recording has a separate item record and barcode
Videorecordings are placed on the shelf near the marking table.

After processing is complete place videorecordings on the appropriate shelf near the Marking Table. 

5. VISUAL MATERIALS THAT ACCOMPANY WOODSON ITEMS.

If a DVD is accompanying a book that is being cataloged for the Woodson, then keep the DVD in the book. It will not be cataloged separately as the book will not be circulating.
